Our over 70s walking football teams recently played in EWFL league games. The 70s Clarets started the day top of 70 division 1 but had 3 regular players out. ‘New boy’ Dennis Hawkins stepped in for his first 70’ game and club favourite Jim Waring pulled on the shirt.
The Clarets narrowly lost the first game to Norwich 1-0, with the Canaries keeper pulling off two good saves and the lads missing a penalty.
They then went on to beat both Eastwood and Leyton Orient 1-0, taking 6 well-earned points on the day and staying 3 points clear at the top with a game in hand. A second consecutive championship is in their own hands.
The 70’ Blues played two league games drawing 0-0 with Southend and narrowly losing 1-0 to Leyton Orient. The team spirit was great and the margins are very fine.
Well done to all the 70’ players, it’s fantastic that we have 2 competitive sides and will also be competing in the over 74s EWFL cup on the 6th October
