New Season Start for 60’s Blues & Clarets

The new season has started for the over 60’s Clarets and Blues.

First up were the Clarets, newly promoted back to division 1. It was a tough start with 3 narrow losses and a draw.

The Clarets had three penalties awarded against them, conceding two, with a fine save by Steve Shoosmith on the other. They had two penalties awarded for them but failed to convert.

In the afternoon it was the turn of the over 60’s Blues. The Blues had a convincing 5-2 win against Grays and 3-0 win against Stones. Sadly, they fell 1-0 to Leyton Orient in the last minutes to a penalty awarded for four runs. Blues conceded two penalties for running , one netted and the other missed.

The story of the day is exactly what we focused on during January and February – walk; be disciplined: don’t give away penalties; be good at taking penalties. Some harsh lessons in the first outing but plenty of good football and plenty to build on for the future
