Prostate Cancer UK – Another Walking Success

On Friday 17th May we joined forces with Essex Cricket Seniors to support them on their fundraiser for Prostate Cancer UK. The walk has been the brainchild of Ron Headley , who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018 and celebrates his 75th birthday in September.

Ron decided to do a fundraising walk in all 33 of the English and Welsh counties that play over 60’ cricket. This was Ron’ 25th walk!

30 Chelmsford City WFC walkers (that’s a first) and a similar number of cricketers, started the walk at the café in Central Park, Chelmsford meandering for about 5 miles and ending up at Essex County cricket ground. Folks then spent the afternoon watching Essex v Warwickshire, eating, drinking, and parading around the ground to great applause.

Members generosity has contributed £1630 to Prostate Cancer UK, twice what we raised for the 2023 walk!! Ron’ fundraising has now reached nearly £45,000 and I’m proud that our club has contributed.

Closer to home we have now raised nearly £9000 for Prostate Cancer UK over the past 3-4 years – thank you to everyone who has supported this wonderful effort.

Of course, the day had a few pictures ( as you would expect !! you can view these on the CCWFC Facebook Page

Finally, a very special thank you to everyone who walked today and to everyone who donated money – you have very big hearts !!
