Spencer and the team put on a truly memorable quiz night – innovative and fun !! - [CCWF Support MIND Charity Tournament](https://ccwfc.co.uk/2026/03/04/ccwf-support-mind-charity-tournament/): Chelmsford City WF took two teams to Billericay yesterday, Tuesday 3 March to support the MIND charity tournament. We used the opportunity for a bit of pre – league season tuning up given that the 60’ league season starts on the 10th March The two teams did a great job representing the club and more importantly helped raise nearly £2500. This is the walking football equivalent of the FIFA player of the year. - [CCWF Clarets Win Division 1](https://ccwfc.co.uk/2025/11/10/ccwf-clarets-win-division-1/): Today saw the final over 70 Division 1 league games at Billericay. The lads went into the day 3 points clear but with some tricky games. They drew 0-0 against 3rd placed Wakering before beating Eastwood Falcons 3-1. Results elsewhere meant that the Clarets went into their final game against Barnet as champions. It was a well fought 0-0 against Barnet, with the Clarets eventually finishing 2 points clear of both Little Oakley and Wakering. - [Great Clarets Essex League Cup Performance](https://ccwfc.co.uk/2025/10/21/great-clarets-essex-league-cup-performance/): The over 65 Clarets played in the Essex league cup finals on Tuesday 21st October at Billericay. They had a very hard semi-final group with Waking, Little Oakley, and Billericay. They won 2-0 against Billericay and then had an excellent game against eventual cup winners Wakering but lost 1-0. The final group game against Little Oakley , would essentially decide who went into the 3rd place play-off final – the lads won 1-0. The roadies Packed house rocks 90 of us rocked the Chelmsford City clubhouse to a great selection of outstanding rock classics (with some new favourites added for the night). There was some fantastic generosity on the night , with £465 raised from the raffle and £495 raised from the auction. Over the recent 3-4 years we have raised over £7000 for prostate Cancer UK; donated £1000 to local Xmas appeals; supported the Xmas charity appeals at Billericay; as well as responding to a number of individual appeals. - [Darrel Smashes SAS Hike for Charity](https://ccwfc.co.uk/2025/07/23/darrel-smashes-sas-hike-for-charity/): Darrel Peacock from Chelmsford City Walking Football has taken on an SAS hike (with 45lbs on his back) for the MACS charity. MACS supports children born without eyes or with severely underdeveloped eyes. The great news is Darrel has just completed the gruelling climb in the Breacon Beacons apparently, he walked the whole time, a genuinely new experience. - [Walking Football Over 50 Blues Are Off The Mark](https://ccwfc.co.uk/2025/07/14/walking-football-over-50-blues-off-the-mark/): The over 50’s Blues had a slow start to the season, drawing 2 and losing 4. They fired into action, narrowly losing 1-0 to 2nd place Cheshunt before beating league leaders Heybridge Swifts 1-0 and dominating a 2-1 win against mid -table Romford. To put it in context , we haven’t beaten Norwich in 5 years at any age group , and they came with 4 internationals!! Ashley Reid put the Clarets ahead early on but the Canaries pulled it back to 1-1 before half time. The second half saw considerable Norwich possession but resolute defending and a great goalkeeping display kept it at 1-1. The game went straight to penalties. Recently the team played their final Soccability league games of the season. They beat Disability 4 Sport 1-0 , then narrowly lost 1-0 to Maldon Saints (despite hitting the post and bar three times!). CCWFC entered 3 of the 14 teams that competed in the Basildon MIND tournament , an important local charity bringing much needed support to those experiencing mental health challenges. - [England Captains On Duty](https://ccwfc.co.uk/2025/04/09/england-captains-on-duty/): Both our CCWFC England walking football captains were recently in action. Colin Haydon led out the England over 65’s, playing 4 games, beating Northern Ireland 60’s 1-0 and 2-1 and England South-West 3-0 and 1-0. Spencer Pratten led out the England over 60’s beating Wales 6-0 (Spencer scored 3) but lost 1-0 to Northern Ireland after an outstanding goalkeeping display from their keeper. First up were the Clarets, newly promoted back to division 1. It was a tough start with 3 narrow losses and a draw. The Clarets had three penalties awarded against them, conceding two, with a fine save by Steve Shoosmith on the other. They had two penalties awarded for them but failed to convert. - [Over 50’s Clarets play in the Essex League Cup Finals](https://ccwfc.co.uk/2025/01/20/over-50s-clarets-play-in-the-essex-league-cup-finals/): Our 50s won their quarter -final on penalties after a 2-2 draw against Little Oakley , then beat Billericay 2-0 in the semi-final. The final was a very tight affair against Concord with some brilliant goalkeeping denying Chelmsford early on. Concord eventually won 1-0. Colin Haydon led the England over 65s to 5 wins and 1 draw at a recent tournament in Spain. They beat Spain A 2-0 and drew 1-1; beat Gibraltar 3-0 twice ; and beat Spain B 2-0 twice. They finished the tournament on 16 /18 points, 8 points ahead of second placed Spain A. They hosted the Essex leg of a 33-county walk being undertaken by Ron Hedley, who is raising money for Prostate Cancer UK We had 12 walkers and over 40 club members who donated.
